A Guide To Laser Liposuction

Laser liposuction, also labeled as Smart Lipo, is the newest method for fat removal which uses laser technology.

Laser liposuction requires the use of a laser to melt the fat and tighten the surrounding skin in any part of the body. It can be performed in the surgeon’s office or clinic and requires the use of a local anesthetic.

How Does Laser Liposuction Work?

There are two types of lasers used in this kind of method. There is the external laser, which is used on the outside of the skin of the patient before the surgery, and the internal laser, which is attached to a small tube that is about 1 mm to 2 mm in diameter. This tube is called a cannula. The surgeon inserts the cannula into the skin through small incisions. The laser breaks and drains the fat while stimulating the natural production of collagen. This helps in tightening the skin which reduces sagging after the surgery. Additionally, the laser also seals blood vessels and minimizes swelling, bruising, and bleeding. The liquidated fat is then removed through the tiny incisions that the surgeon made for cannula.

The Advantages Of Laser Technology

Laser Liposuction has more advantages than the traditional liposuction. One of its benefits is that, it uses local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. This makes the cost of the procedure less costly and less risky as well. Furthermore, the surgery is more comfortable for the patient since it does not require the use of a big cannula to dissolve the fat. Unlike traditional liposuction, Smart Lipo does not require a long recovery period and the bruising will disappear within two to three days. In addition, the patient may be able to return to work after just one day.

Candidates For Smart Lipo

If you are in good health, are not overweight or obese, and you have pockets of fat on your body that are impossible to get rid of through diet and exercise, then you are eligible for Smart Lipo surgery. However, you need to have realistic expectations and understand that there are limits to this surgery. Furthermore, when it is time to have the surgery, your ideal body weight should not be too far from your current weight. You are not eligible for Smart Lipo if you have any of the following: diabetes, liver problems, kidney diseases, heart problems, skin disorders, and blood disorders.

Side Effects And Complications

If you plan on getting laser liposuction, you need to remember that there are risks that you have to face and there are possibilities of complications arising. There will be bruising and swelling after the surgery, but this will not last long. Scars may also be present but they will fade after a few weeks. You might also experience limited mobility after the surgery, depending on how the procedure is done. Another side effect that may occur is burns on the skin or nerves which you can get from the laser’s heat. In addition, infection may arise if the area affected is not given proper care. Seroma, or the collection of fluid in the area after the fat has been removed, may also occur.
